The intimacy of ordinary things.
A table can hold the rhythm of lives around it. I think of pauses, nearby hands and the objects between which a conversation finds room. The cup and vessel offer familiar reference points here, while black marks cross them and disturb their stillness.
The horizontal divides the surface; drawing connects it again. I value this movement within a still life. Ordinary things can receive something of our feelings and greet us differently from one day to the next. I let them retain a slightly unsettled intimacy, like a room where conversation might continue.
Colour and material
Cup and vessel remain recognisable among black marks. A horizontal fragments the still life while gestural drawing reconnects its registers.
