I can be here without saying everything.
I can be present without explaining myself completely. That possibility matters to me. The woman’s outline emerges and recedes into colour, keeping a space of her own. Between figure and ground I seek a visibility that respects what remains intimate.
Violet and pale yellow allow the body to be perceived without fixing its whole story. I recognise myself in this reserve. Sometimes I want to be seen while keeping part of what I feel to myself. Presence can draw strength from the freedom to reveal itself gradually.
Colour and material
Contour makes the figure recognisable while overlapping layers bind it to the ground. The painting retains its ambiguity at the boundary between portrait and atmosphere.
